Book Review: Savannah Grey by Cliff McNish (LONG OVERDUE I KNOW)

(From Goodreads)
15 year old Savannah Grey has never felt she's belonged. She keeps her distance, so she's surprised by her attraction to the new boy Reece. Then strange things begin to happen: nature, it seems, is exerting an overpowering force on the world. Birds behave strangely; gusts of wind blow leaves so fiercely they seem to lure people away. And Savannah learns she has supernatural powers. Nature has a purpose for Savannah and her friends. For they are on course to meet the vile and evil Orcrassa, who wants to destroy the world by corrupting nature. And it wants Savannah Grey to help realise its savage intent.
Characters: I thought the characters in this book were pretty cool. I thought that Savannah was very likable and I was so rooting for her and Reece. I wasn't too happy about the cliche friendship between Savanna and Nina though. Nina was the beautiful outgoing friend while Savannah was the tall and awkward one that liked to stay in the shadows. I loved the fact that you got to change point of views between the monsters of the story and the humans. It was interesting to see what the monsters thought and said.

Plot: The plot was pretty amazing! It was so unpredictable and I was not expecting it one bit. I am usually able to guess what may happen in at the end of the book but this ending came out of left field.

Writing Style: I give a standing ovation to Cliff McNish. This story was so uniquely written and even gave me chills. I have never read anything like this. I liked the way he talked about the history of the Orcrassa and how it evolved. I felt like it was real.

Verdict: 5/5! If you are looking for a dark and creepy book, you should most definitely read this!

Get to Know Mehhh!

It is currently 2:39 a.m. and I am bored. So I just decided that it is time for you guys to get to know me. I will just give 5 facts about my life and all that jazz. Maybe this can be a continuous thing. You know. Maybe have our own little relationship going. Let it build. And stuff. (If you do not know that I am being VERY sarcastic then you are in for a rude awakening. Better get used to my humor!) Lets get started!

1. I play the violin and the guitar. I have played the violin for about six years and the guitar for five. I just recently started teaching violin. My student is 10 and super sweet!

2. Not many people know that I can sing. I'm a bit too shy to sing in front of people. My guitar teacher has been pushing me to sign up for an open mike night near by because she is the only one, besides my family, who knows I like singing. I'm am working up to that I promise. By the end of this year, I want to have done an open mike night!

3. I plan on minoring in music when I get to college. Because music is pretty tight.

4.Justin Nozuka is one of my favorite male singers of all time. All. Time. So friggin talented! I think one of his songs made me cry. And he is a tad bit gorgeous. Just a tad.
He's the one putting on the shirt at the beginning :))
                                            And just one more!

5. I have always wanted to be a contemporary dancer. When I was younger, I would beg my parents to put me in dance classes but I was never able to :(. I still have that yearning to dance when I watch shows like
So You Think You Can Dance. *Sigh* I know it's never too late to start dancing but it still feels impossible for me. I think I have the potential though. We'll see what happens.

6. Me and my siblings have SO many inside jokes! They are mostly quotes from movies and tv shows. We have so many it's just instinct to say them and we forget where the jokes originated from. You guys should meet them because they are pretty cool and funny. I may do a video introducing them because you all would like them. Nobody gets me like they do!

7. You have no idea how many times I felt like typing "y'all" instead of  "you guys". I didn't want to sound too country. I have been noticing more and more that I sound so Texan! Not that sounding country is a bad thing (I actually kinda like the accents!)  but I'm Nigerian (well my parents both are and they moved to American in their early twenties) so it's weird for my parents to have these African accents and me speaking with a country drawl. You just need to hear my voice. Maybe I'm exaggerating.

8. I love talking in a Nigerian accent! It is so fun!!!

So that it all for now! Yeah I know that's way more than five. But it's all good. Hope to build more on our "relationship". Be back soon.

Updates!

Hey! Just wanted to come in and update you guys on some things. There are three book reviews that I need to write and I am super excited about them. I think I'm gonna start doing IMM (In My Mailbox-a meme started by Kristi from The Story Siren. Go check her out! Her blog is super awesome!) I wanted to start doing this because I really don't know where I'm going with this blogging thing. I started it because I thought it would be a cool thing to do but I don't have any interesting things to do on here (in my opinion). I love writing book reviews and I feel that if one of my reviews influence you to pick up that book, my job is done. But anyways, you guys have any ideas on interesting things I should do comment below! What do you thing about me making some vlogs here and there? Just let me know! I will be back soon!

Book Review: The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey

I just finished reading The Monstrumologist and it was AWESOME! It did take me a while to finish it but don't let the put a damper on the amazingness of this book. Yup I loved it so much I'm making up my own words.

(From Goodreads)

These are the secrets I have kept.
This is the trust I never betrayed.
But he is dead now and has been for more than forty years, the one who gave me his trust, the one for whom I kept these secrets.
The one who saved me...and the one who cursed me.

So begins the journal of Will Henry, orphaned assistant to Dr. Pellinore Warthrop, a man with a most unusual specialty: monstrumology, the study of monsters. In his time with the doctor, Will has met many a mysterious late-night visitor, and seen things he never imagined were real. But when a grave robber comes calling in the middle of the night with a gruesome find, he brings with him their most deadly case yet.

A monster-hunting doctor and his apprentice face off against a plague of monsters in the first book of Rick Yancey's new series, The Monstrumologist.

Characters: AMAZING characters! I loved every single one of them in their own special way. I wanted to be Will Henry's bff. He was just so cute and lovable and...and...gahh... (that's me gushing). There is no problem with the fact that I want a twelve year old to be my best friend. None at all. I had a soft spot for Dr. Warthrop, despite the fact that he was a tad bit rude to my bff. And then there was Kearns. Oh Kearns, Kearns, Kearns. He was twisted in all the right ways. He reminded me of Joker from The Dark Night because the twisted evil villaney thing was what made you like them. *Sigh* The characters were just so well written and you had time to watch each one grow and progress.

Plot: The plot was very good but when you are about a third of the way through, you kind of start guessing what the plot will be. I'm not saying that there are no surprises-- there most definitely are-- but the overall plot wasn't too surprising. That did not take away from the gory goodness of the book though.

Writing Style: Rick Yancey did a wonderful job of creating this spooky, dark, Gothic atmosphere. His words just draw you in. There were numerous occasions where I was left speechless, my jaw hanging by the descriptions given. I would cringe and-- no lie- get chills. Many times I would cry out in disgust (and my sister would promptly shush me.)I also loved the little jokes here in there. I really wasn't expecting it for a book like this. I found myself chuckling at the American Revolution puns (or was it some other war? I was never that good at remembering things!)  Great Job Rick!

Verdict: 5/5. I Know! It was that good. Now let's give a round of applause for my first perfect scored book!

That's pretty much all I have to say but I will definitely be checking in again soon!

I wonder if people come to my blog with hopes of finding the secrets of an actual bookie. If you do, I'm sorry to disappoint. Really wish I could have helped you on those horse races but that's just not my specialty.

Book Review: Infinity (Chronicles of Nick) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

AHH IT HAS BEEN A SUPER SUPER LONG TIME SINCE I LAST POSTED!!! Shame shame shame on me! I know you guys don't want to hear excuses so I won't make any. But I did finish reading Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon so here is my review!

(From Goodreads)

At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.
Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.
But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.
As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

Characters: I thought the characters in this book were pretty cool. Nick was very funny and and snarky. He had a LOT of spunk. His mom I thought was pretty cool and I loved the mysterious characters like Kyrian and Archeron. I do wish the author talked more about them because they were around a lot for the first half of the book but sorta disappeared in the last half :(. That would have given this book major points.

Plot: I thought the plot was very good! I was surprised and shocked at all the twists in the book. I really wasn't expecting what I got! But  I did not like how almost EVERYTHING was resolved at the end. (Hope that didn't ruin anything.) I wanted some sort of a cliff hanger but there wasn't one :(. The end didn't leave me super pumped for the next book. I also wish the book was more descriptive with the zombies. I mean come on, we need to know more about the zombies than the fact that they were falling apart and smelled like sulfur and rotten eggs! How did they smell like? What noises did they make?

Writing Style: Although I loved Nick's snarkiness, at times it was a bit too much. It irritated me how sometimes he would be talking really country, saying, "My mama ain't raised me to be no fool," back to regular old teenage adolescent talking. I saw what the author was trying to do but it just wasn't working. I thought Nick's analogies were funny and Kenyon did a good job of not overdoing them. I liked the third person point of view because you got to see into many other characters heads but sometimes, the shifting of "minds" wasn't clear. Nick would be talking to one of his friends and the third person would be describing how Nick was feeling but when there was a switch in character, it would happen so abruptly I would have to re-read a the previous sentences to see who's mind I was currently seeing into. (The word "gah" was used so much to convey frustration! WAS THERE NO OTHER WORD TO USE??? Just releasing some frustration >.<)

Verdict: 3/5. Pretty good! There were too many issues I couldn't overlook!
